Wel, it does make sense because those are the most popular ones. I'll have to see if i pick it up. It looks promising, but i need to see more gameplay variation.

I certainly don't deny their popularity, in-fact they're the ones to thank that the series is still alive in the west here. It's just that from the other games you have such interesting and beloved characters, a lot more so than characters such as Lissa. In addition, this is a game for fans like Hyrule Warriors, and while of course the 3DS games are most popular, there's no reason to outright not include at least popular characters from other games such as Ike and Lyn. One reason they would do this is perhaps for the sake of story, but i find that as a somewhat weak tradeoff.
