They started moving in on them again as soon as they realized the ice could hold them though.
And that the Night King would know that dragons were on the way does not lie within the capabilities that he has been shown to have so far. So how do you figure that this was obvious?

It's been shown that he has similar abilities to Bran.  But you're right, it probably wasn't obvious, I had just been thinking about ice dragons and such so I figured that the Night King would need a dragon and considering that they didn't attack until moments before the dragons showed up seemed to me that he had been waiting.
