Has it ever been actually confirmed when the Netflix TV shows take place though? Like is it real time like the films or is it set in between events of a certain few of the films? And yeah the media did report it as an earthquake but even in just the second episode there were plenty of people talking about how it couldn't have been an earthquake and such and how after "the incident" (the first avengers movie) people were scared, so a lot of people were suspicious of it. I know the Avengers deal with global threats and not street level ones and such but it still just seems a bit off how none of them would bother to check that out just in case considering how literally all of them live in New York and would have felt it as well. (Unless it happened during like Civil War or something to where they wouldn't be in New York). Maybe Stick wouldn't care at all about The Avengers enough to mention them, but i'm talking overall though. Like how is it in this world, where they all obviously know about The Avengers, Spider-Man, etc, the thought of it didn't cross any one of their minds? Stick says "only the 4 of you can save New York". And then one of them like Daredevil could have just responded "What about the Avengers? Or that Spider-Man guy? Can't we try and get help for this?". And then Stick or someone responds like "The Avengers only deal with global threats, and if you would have a way to contact Spider-Man i'm all ears" or "this isn't their fight". Like they all live in the same world, the world where The Avengers are worldwide know, and in New York obviously everyone knows about Spider-Man, but it didn't cross ANY of their minds to even mention it? It just seems so unrealistic, considering how they mention 'the incident' a lot as well in the shows. That would make sense as to why they wouldn't have been involved. It would have literally taken one line, less than a minute to even say, and that could have pleased a lot of fans, because a lot of people have been complaining about how disconnected the shows feel from the overall MCU, with some even doubting they even are in the MCU at this point due to it. But they couldn't even do that. It just sucks because a lot of people want the Netflix characters to eventually finally crossover into the films but it just feels like someone over there just doesn't care enough to do it if they can't even put in a line every now and then. |
Yes it's been confirmed. For example Season 1 of Daredevil takes place some times after the events of the first Avengers films, though according to Charlie Cox it was in 2015 and the events are remembered very well. In fact if you pay attention to all the world building there are lots of subtle hints to this such as news paper articles, people selling footage of the events, and so on. One of the interesting things about the Netflix shows is that rather than being in your face about the connections to the MCU like the movies or the network television shows such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the connections are subtle and are developed in the world building rather than direct. They are there but this allows for a bit more of an isolated form of telling the story. Interestingly enough the Stan Lee cameos are done in a similar fashion to reflect this. His cameos are often found as pictures of him or as posters on the wall, but they are there and they are pretty hard to miss.
I'm not sure what exact day or month that The Defenders takes place in, but we know it's in 2016 MCU time. It absolutely has to be in the Summer/Fall period and this writes off a lot of characters, especially Spider-Man and Dr Strange and the well... Everyone really. Also if Iron-Man couldn't take the time to aid Peter, I doubt he's going to look in to an Earthquake. As for Spider-Man, the Defenders wouldn't know about him and they probably would vote against letting a kid join the fight. I don't see Matt or Luke being okay with that. What we do know is that The Defenders either takes place during the Civil War or during Spider-Man: Homecoming/Doctor Strange. As the timelines catch up then yes, the Accords or even the Index will need to be addressed for in one way or another right now it's actually not an issue as much as people try to claim it to be. It's going to be hard to avoid this issue with Luke Cage, and I don't think he'll have a problem signing the accords either and it's a plot point they can explore between Luke and Misty Knight. As for the others, well Danny might be open to it but convincing Jessica and Matt is a bit of laughing matter imho.

Absolutely, 100%! Danny Rand is technically the central focus of the plot for "The Defenders". He's the key to everything. Daredevil is also nearly equally important to watch if you want to see how everything ties together and to obviously know about his side of the Hand, who Stick is, and who Elektra is. The DD Season 2 cliffhanger ties into The Defenders and basically everything involving Danny and The Hand in Iron Fist is brought up in The Defenders, and I do mean everything. Both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are a bit more isolated and don't deal with the war against the Hand in their own shows but fate leads them to from the Defenders and still draws connection; however their supporting characters return and references are made to their stories. "The Defenders" ties all the shows and their characters together very well and even often opts for that character's artistic style from their show when solely focusing on them on their own in the earlier episodes. Which is really cool. It's an accumulation of everything for those characters. If you miss one show it'll really hinder your appreciation and enjoyment of the show from a design perspective, from a story perspective Daredevil and Iron Fist are absolute musts to be able to follow even some of the most basic key plot points correctly.
