Yeah despite being a succesor to the 3DS and Wii U sales aligned the Switch is just keeping up with the 3DS. Sales are excellent but this puts them into perspective.

It's considered a home console by Nintendo and not a successor to the 3DS.

"Fils-Aime made it clear that though the Nintendo Switch is a portable console, it is a home console and not a replacement for what Nintendo wants to accomplish with the 3DS and 2DS."

Stop doing what you're doing.

Since when did pr talk become fact?  And it's not a replacement for the 3DS because that can still sell at its very low price point.  It's a succesor and as we've seen in the past succesor does not mean a console will die off straight away.

I understand your point but I disagree.  If ps4 was a hybrid then yes we could say it needs to sell ps3 + psp numbers.  But it's a traditional home console so that would be ridiculous.

If ps5 has a hybrid sku then we would be saying it needs to sell ps4 + vita numbers.

Well you don't understand my point then, but whatever you can try to use that logic all you want, I won't since that makes no sense at all.

Also @ bolded: You can try to spin it all you want, but the Switch is a home console. Just because it can now do both the same as Nintendo's portable as well doesn't mean it is not still a home console as well. Nintendo has said and marketed it this entire time as a console you can take on the go. Acting like because it does something else as well means that it can't be compared to other 'traditional home consoles' in your mind is ridiculous.

You just said it yourself.  marketed as a console on the go.  Aka portable. That's exactly what the PSP was.  A console like the ps2 on the go. My point is it is both home console and portable.
