The 3DS game (which has been done for many, many months) would have generated huge sales in 2016!

4 million would have been achievable on that platform alone last year. Instead they delayed the 3DS release to align with the PS4 game, which cost many times more to develop and sells for around 50% more at retail. In the end, the PS4 sales cut into the 3DS market more than they actually added to the fan-base.

No doubt quite a few portable fans are now holding out for the Switch verison, as well. The Switch would have had a much lower impact on sales of the 3DS version back in 2016, whereas now the 3DS is beyond old-hat to much of the portable market.

A better strategy might have been to release the 3DS game last year and align the Switch and PS4 releases. I seriously hope that SE is getting some of that Capcom money from Sony to push the PS4 as a trade-off for total units sold.
