Dragon Quest XI sales stronger on PS4, on track to meet lower end of sales target

Comments from Square Enix's president and CEO.

Despite physical sales in Japan for Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age being slightly higher on 3DS, the PlayStation 4 version of the game has seen stronger sales overall, according to Square Enix.

“On July 29, we released Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, which has generated a great customer response and garnered praise for its contents,” Square Enix president and CEO Yosuke Matsuda said in an August 4 financial results briefing. “We have seen stronger sales of the PlayStation 4 version than the Nintendo 3DS version, but given the installed base, we have high hopes for growth in sales of the Nintendo 3DS version going forward as well.”

Asked if Square Enix is likely to reach its target for unit sales of Dragon Quest XI, Matsuda said, “We believe that we can reach the lower end of our unit sales plan. Our goal is to reach the upper end of that plan, but we believe that that will depend on how sales of the Nintendo 3DS version trend going forward.”

As previously announced, total shipments and digital sales for Dragon Quest XI have topped three million across PlayStation 4 and 3DS.
