I didn't say anything about sales being on par with PS4/XBO. Merely at the higher end of expectations which would satisfy the continuation of Switch versions. It doesn't have to sell 15 million to be a success. Look at the Vita, the titles sold on average only 500k yet they continued to make 4 Fifa games for that system. Clearly when you look at the big picture it's not on the same power, but you sound as if it has to be, when it doesn't, as well grouping the Switch with the likes of the Wii U and PS Vita. Yes it's a non Xbox/Playstation platform which will mean the sales won't be in the 10 millions or anything, but it doesn't mean it will barely achieve 500k. 1-2 million on Switch is more than enough to be a worthwhile success to the franchise. It's enough to be considered impressive and be called selling well. It's enough for EA to invest more into the Switch, if they don't want to miss out on as much sales as possible. |
Maybe you should look at the Vita games themselves. As far as I know, all of the Vita games beyond the original "FIFA Soccer" were literally roster and kit updates. Nothing more. That's literally the work of 4-5 people for a 6-8 weeks max. That's all of the investment they decided that platform was worth.
The Switch is going to need to see more than 1 million in sales if EA is going to port other franchises besides maybe Madden. They tend to put those two games on pretty much anything at least once to see what sticks.
