Wow...I was going to not comment on this thread anymore because I figure the whole point of it is to be the be all end all of Splatoon 2 "worthy-ness" discussion...... ya know like other people just put in their input and then leave the thread and then that's it ... but some of this just really hits a nerve

Definitely not.
New horde mode
New weapons and Subs
Tons of new clothing
New maps
New single player experience
That's as much a sequel as you can get.

Not really. You can list anything in a big list and make it sound like a big improvement. That's about as much of a sequel as COD is. Cooking Mama 2 : New recipes, New "Mama's", New Graphics, New campaign ... like what lol.

I don't really think the sequel is mediocre at all. It's about the same level of innovation that comes with each new iteration of Mario Kart, and Smash Bros.

Wroooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnng. At least about Smash Brothers. At least Mario Kart doesn't come out every 2 years though. Besides, some of the Mario Kart gimmicks implemented in some of the sequels change things a LOT. I don't think the same could be said for Splatoon 2

Not every entry in a said franchise needs to reinvent the wheel to be worthy of the sequel label. While I do believe that Splatoon 2 was a victim of the need of a good first year software output, from what reviewers said and players said, it seems like a clear improvement over basically everything that the first one did.

For the point we are in time, both due to the failure of the Wii U and given the diversity of the other titles in the Switch, Splatoon 2 is more than fine as a sequel.

And no one said it needed to be...

If Splatoon 2 is a victim of first year lineup, then I don't know how you could say it's "more than fine". The best I could say about a sequel that was clearly rushed for a lineup is ... "it's fine". Besides, Splatoon 2's base game plays a lot like Splatoon after all it's updates, just with a bit of extra content. You kind of implied you hadn't played Splatoon 2 (or possibly 1 too) though so idk.
