Not every entry in a said franchise needs to reinvent the wheel to be worthy of the sequel label.While I do believe that Splatoon 2 was a victim of the need of a good first year software output, from what reviewers said and players said, it seems like a clear improvement over basically everything that the first one did.
For the point we are in time, both due to the failure of the Wii U and given the diversity of the other titles in the Switch, Splatoon 2 is more than fine as a sequel.
