It is a shrinking market compared to all of those markets.

Of course it is still 2nd and important, but thats not the point of my post. UK threads can get this toxic, but rarely. France and Germany threads never do. US is the most important market and the NPD threads are monthly but doesn't have 4 times as much pettiness as these threads.

Isn't the EU usually seen as one market though. Sure they are a number of individual countries. But in general their economy and taste in gaming is pretty much the same. Same goes for USA and Canada a.k.a. the North American market. Which is still (by far) the biggest than EU and after that Japan. Asia is to much divided in both taste and market to fuse in one market. But as individual country it's still very relevant, but compared to EU it's rather small. That's why there are games targeted at the EU market and the Japanese market, but in general games targeted at EU and in lesser or more ways targeted at the NA market such as Horizon sell more WW. So Splatoon winning in Japan doesn't necessarily mean that it will win globally. But Crash outselling Splatoon in UK with bigger launch sales than Horizon does indicate it most likely will do better WW.

Just compare Xbox ONE sales of UK with the rest of Europe. UK alone makes about 50% of it's sales there, if not more. The reverse is also true with the Switch: Compare the sales in UK with those in France, for instance. There's a huge gap in sales both for software and hardware. The Vita didn't sell well in most european countries, but did relatively well in Spain.

So no, every country has it's quirks in Europe. The only really uniting gaming quirks are that Sony home console usually do very well here and that PC (or computer I should say, since this actually predates the PC with computers like the ZX Spectrum or the C64) gaming always was pretty big here.
