Not sure if you're kidding. I hope you are. There a tons of video games that you won't be sold in America if you're under 17. GTA 5, Witcher3 and MGS5 come to mind almost immediately when I read the bolded. This is like saying all books or for kids and then showing a cover for the "Cliffford the Big Red Dog" series book. |
Sure there are mature rated video games but they are very much in the minority the majority of game titles are rated at most for a teenager and generally people who don't feel their manhood is in danger when they buy a plastic toy in a shop.
I'm not saying "all games are for kids" I'm saying that games as a whole are something which is targetted towards children and teens, there are enthusiasts (this forum and users online) who enjoy these things from our childhood into adult life, but the fact remains that if you actually raise your head and look around at the tshirts, accessories and general colour scheme of a video game shop it isn't a place designed for adults (30+) we are the exception to the norm in the hobby we hold, I'm just saying don't start foaming at the mouth when Nintendo asks you to buy DLC in the form of a collectible figure because it's a way of making dlc more appealing to their target audiences (children and adult collectors who have accepted their faith as people who enjoy products designed for kids)
As a counter point to my own post you could obviously say that GTAV is one of if not the highest selling game on the current gen machines and that is 18+ but.... sadly some parents fucking suck and I know of kids as young as 8 who discuss their hours spent playing that game. Not all the copies of it are purchased for kids, but many are as it is a super popular game and it's considered something of a rite of passage if you are able to get your hands on a copy of GTA as a younger player in my experiences.
