I remember Nexgenwars! It was the first console sales website I was ever introduced to ... I think people used to use their linked infographics for forum sigs in other gaming sites, iirc. Pretty sure they just used bulk historical data to make a super-crude time-based estimate of sales, is all.

 

That's exactly what they did back in the day. It was a pretty shit website haha.
