its the way the game treats the dropouts. the amount of ink you covered acts as the EXP and gold you earned for that round. When you force quit the game you dont get anything, which is why some players could have 0p of ink covered. it also doesnt retract kills when you quit either, and your kill count will still be displayed along with the 0p ink turfed. (thats a good way to distinguish in a player lost connection or rage quit)
one time i did actually win a game 3v4. it was in my final days of the original Splatoon and one of our guys quit in the middle of a match, but somehow we were able to beat them even being one man down. another memorable incident for me was when i was left in a 1v1 match after a server hiccup.
but luckily with Splatoon 2 they added a ragequit prevention system, so you can be banned from Splatoon 2 now if you drop out too often.
