I felt the same way about the joy cons at first, but I'm surprised how quickly I got used to it. I prefer to play the games in handheld mode as my 47 inch tv is just too big for HD ready resolution and you can see pixels too clearly. The joycons I place detached from anything and sith with one in each hand. Feels really good now actually. Only problem like that is you can't charge the system while having it stand on a table.
