I thought the 2016 Ghostbusters was good, in fact I thought it was better than the originals.

I'm probably gonna get a lot of hate for that, but hey, in the end it comes down to opinion. I was never a huge fan of the originals, I'm not saying theyre bad, they were good films in there own right, just not as sacred as most seem to see them (to me anyway).

As a comedy film, which they all are, the 2016 version got more laughs out of me than the original 2 combined.

It'd a shame so many hated on the new one before giving it a chance because of [insert reason here] so there'll never be a sequel :(

You're welcome to like it more, but I certainly won't agree with you haha

The original was really lightning in a bottle akin to Back to the Future; it's difficult to replicate, even by the same people who made it (I enjoyed Ghostbusters 2 but it's certainly inferior, for instance).

I had some hope for the reboot simply because I thought the casting was brilliant, grabbing the funniest women I could think of from SNL and such... but they just went far too lowbrow with the humor. The slightly serious, grounded tone that contrasted so wonderfully with the dry and clever humor of the original was tossed out in favor of a more cartoonish approach, and I didn't care for that. If you're going to have the gumption to actually take the exact title of a beloved classic then I expect the film to try to at least mimick the style and humor of it, and while I thought they did that to some degree with the visuals (they really look like high definition versions of those goofy 80's ghosts), the rest of the movie felt nothing like the original.
