"At least it's still free."

Would be pretty crazy if it wasn't included in the cost for playing online. That is what gives you access to this app, right?

No, I'm pretty sure the app is free. This current version anyways.

Anyway, I saw someone mention this so it had me wondering, how would this work if you have Switch docked under the TV far away from where you are playing?

I asked this question earlier in this thread.

Can you connect the headphones into the thing that connects the Joycons somehow? Or would you need a super long headphone cable/bluetooth converter?

I doubt there'll be a need for a super long headphone jack cable (if so, into the garbage this should go) but looking at the manner in which this whole set up is arranged, I noticed something interesting: the only physical connection the Switch has to the phone and headphones is through the audio jack. I have to wonder is this how the Switch communicates with the phone? Through the audio jack? Or is the phone synced-up with the Switch in a different manner?..

If the phone syncs up with the Switch in a manner other than through the audio jack, could we one day see a set up where we can disconnect the Switch unit from the phone and headphones and end up with something simpler like so:

BTW, I came up with another illustration where the Switch and the phone are hooked up to power. I call it 'the ring':
