Nope. Playing illegal copies or cheating online COULD get you a ban. But as long as you stay clean, you're totally safe.

So what legal homebrew is that attractive that makes up for the inconveniences of an old firmware?

Can you even connect to PSN to download your PS+ games, download patches, use cloud saving, use cross-save between PS4 + Vita, buy Vita/PSP/Ps1 games?

1. How about support for a Micro SD adapter so you can stuff Micro SDs up to 256 GB (probably even more) into that Vita?

Full PSP emulator, so you can use any PSP homebrew. Also Emulators. Full support for RetroArch, so you can play all that NES/SNES/GB/GBA/Genesis/DOS/whatever Goodness on the go. A N64 emulator is in the works, but not quite there yet as we only now have access to the GPU. It should come soon enough. There are also some really good homebrew games, for example ports of Doom, Wolfenstein 3D and Quake. Downloaders allow you to download any file to your Vita. Finally a true Battery indicator so you know the precise percentage of power left. Plus you can use fansubs for japanese games and there are a whole lot worth checking out! With HENkaku you throw that language barrier right out of the window!

And those are just some examples and the scene is quite active at the time. There should follow new great homebrews regurlarly.

2. Yes, at the moment you have full access to the PSN including the store, online gaming, trophies and Cross-Save. Sony could however fix that at any moment, but even if they do, it will be back sooner or later.

Only downside: You can't play any games that need 3.63 or higher. But yeah, just wait a lil' bit and that will also get worked out.
