I agree.
Resolution has been hot lately, because it is easy to market, as it is easy to understand. That's fine. Resolution needs to be the cool thing once in a while, so that the tech moves forward in that area. But, as we all get to 4k over the next couple of years, my hope is that the focus will switch to frame rate. It is also fairly easy to understand. In my opinion, it has a much larger effect on the gaming experience than resoltion. It fundamentally changes the feel of a game.
Things like textures, physics, and number of assets on screen are all important. But, they're harder to make the consumer understand, so they're harder to sell. I think these kinds of advancements will always be mostly behind the scenes.
