i've already beaten the japanese version which i actually bought (no R4 here). I was very impressed by this game, the cutscenes are very epic and the dialogue was excellent (not sure about how it translates to english though). The gameplay is the same but with how radically changed the graphics are and the dungeons being in kind of a diagonal overhead view it gives it a much fresher feel.
40 dollars is well worth it, i spent about 50 to get it in Japan.
