I don't know why everybody is making a big deal out of it, however I don't watch Doctor Who at all. From the little bits that I know, I don't see why the Doctor can't be a girl or a minority or something along those lines.
I mean, it can be a bit off-putting when these types of changes happen, with the ghostbusters being the main example of gender swaps gone terribly wrong. For this show though, it honestly feels like the gender or race of the Doctor is the least important thing about it. I will say, I'm pretty annoyed by some guys making this out to be like a crime or some sort of personal attack on men AND some women making this like a defining moment in the lives of women world wide. I guess these are just people with waaay too much time in their hands and not enough actual problems/hardships.
