5 weeks by law (some employers even have more), which increases by age once you hit 40+ 50+ etc here in Sweden. 

I don't see it as a bummer at all. I don't think law should dictate relationships between employers and employees. If Americans want more vacation time, they are free to negotiate for it with their employers.
