I didn't use it but isn't there a simplified control mode in the options? I don't know and can't check because I'm at work.

It was 15 not 17. But no. If you play carrer mode it is still a disaster. We were really upset. We paid for a fun game but it turned out it is a game which needs allot of practice. That Hardcore mode should be an option.
