What would be the point of competing if all exclusives became multiplat? Eventually only one brand would matter and you would force the mass population to think based on specs rather than what the company makes that or provides which makes them happy. There's a point where pro consumer wholly becomes anti business.

The point of competing would be to get more cosumers and money. Not so sure that only one brand would matter. People would still prefer a controller, interface, network, etc. compared to the other. Also the entry price for each.

This would only benefit Microsoft because their deficiencies would no longer be exposed. If that's what they wanted they should've stayed with PC. There is a tradition on consoles. All brands have had to eventually rise to the occasion and have competent first party. Nintendo has always had first party to survive, and sega has always had great first party but had to make more because Nintendo had the lionshare of the third party in the genesis era. Sony had decent first party but Microsofts existence forced gen to build their first party into a great force to differentiate from the competition. Microsoft is still doing nothing in their third gen. Either that or they are just inept.
