disagree entirely. I rewatched Jumanji recentely and objectively I think it does have a lot of really well directed moments. The effects look great for the time, and the pacing and tone is killer. I mean based on premise alone I think it would be hard to imagine it working- but somehow it is a really solid blend of silly and creepy.
What the new film is attempting is the easiest thing on the planet to do- and just sad. Making a silly bad-comedy popcorn movie with a few fantastical elements is just so expected and generic these days. Disappointing.
love it or hate it, at least the OG Jumanji film attempted a rather risky blend of tones and managed to succeed in being mysterious and uneasy
