I don't think it will happen. A N64 Mini would actually require some work, as those titles don't run as smoothly and problem-free on emulators like SNES and NES titles. So Nintendo either has to make a perfect emulator or has to make changes to the games themselves. Both requires some work, while NES Mini and SNES Mini is pretty much just a SOC with an Emulator and some ROMs thrown onto it.

I just don't see Nintendo investing too much into this kind of thing. I think in 2018 we will see NES Classic Mini 2 with other games than the first one, in 2019 SNES Mini 2 and so on.

Nintendo isn't emulating entire game library's here. Only a few select games, so they can focus on improving the emulation quality for just a couple of dozen titles.

Now if they were emulating hundreds of games your argument might have some merit.

I think it's the last one they can feasibly do. The last one they could sell as 'retro'. GameCube feels more modern because the graphics actually look like something, but more importantly the sizes of games will get too large while N64 games are usually still relatively small. There will be an N64-mini, maybe even next year already, and it'll be the last one of the line.

Gamecube certainly doesn't feel modern... It's 480P~ resolution certainly hasn't aged well.

Plus emulating the gamecube is certainly more difficult on low-end ARM SoC's that these micro-consoles use.
