Most companies (I am looking at you Sega and all those Saturn games that you could have rereleased by now) would have thrown this game away. It is only because of certain individuals that kept the complete copy of this game that we are having the opportunity to play it. Also the success of the NES Classic, because once the SNES classic is broken down, there will probably be a mini FX chip in it which would explain why Nintendo never tried Star Fox or Yoshi's Island on the VC because it would take Iwata style programming savy to make it work on different hardware.
