Left wing politicians are always looking for ways to raise tax revenue and disguise it with good intentions. So yeah... that's kinda evil. Its no coincidence blue states tend to have the highest taxes.

I'm simply pointing out there are still plenty of other alternatives to get fat versus sugary drinks. I mean a large burger and fries alone can hit 2000 calories. Throw in any common dessert and you've already consumed the same calories of a sugary drink.

This sugary drink tax is nonsense, it creates no incentive to getting healthy. You could even go to a different city and stock up on sugary drinks, unless there is sugar gestapo stopping that.

For the record, I personally don't believe people should consume these drinks. But higher taxes doesn't solve the problem. If the goal is genuinely encouraging healthier lifestyles, find a way for people to save money. But that isn't what this is about, the goal is to take money from people. Its like cigarettes, if everybody stopped smoking... cities would be fucked from all the lost tax revenue.
