I tried it a while back, it's not great, it's really clunky and does not improve anything from the first game.

If the reviewers are biased and retro gaming fans, I think it'll go upward of 80/85

If they are actual reviewers that are reviewing a clunky SNES game released in 2017, I'd say around 70.

This is the third time I've heard this, so I don't hold out a ton of hope for this game. Its like there is a reason Nintendo didn't rekease it!

I predict 67 if any meta score at all.

I was discussing it on kotaku, and someone did a way better job than me giving an opinion on the game

"I honestly reckon it was never as finished as they initially claimed. The actual rom itself clearly wasn’t, and some modders had to add things to essentially get it to play properly. Maybe it was the programming that was complete but not all the polygon assets had been created or something but there was definitely less of a theme to each area than before.

It came off as a bit like Starfox Command did, where you would play a lot of short skirmishes rather than whole levels. I liked some of the ideas behind it, trying to fly over the map to catch missiles and invaders got quite intense, and systematically knocking out planetary outposts made it more tactical. But it over relied on all range mode levels for the planets and almost tried to do too much in them as opposed to what they ended up with in Starfox 64. It ended up quite cramped.

We also flat out lost long planet levels, instead we ended up with underground areas that pretty much all looked and acted the same with minor enemy pattern differences. It was cool to move around with the chicken walker, which allowed more exploration, but then there wasn’t all that much to explore.

In many ways you can see why they scraped in in the end to go for making Starfox 64 (i know it was primarily so they could move up to the N64 but i wouldn’t be surpised if this added to it). A lot of the ideas still needed smoothing off. In Starfox 2 you fight Star Wolf individually rather than all at once. I can see why this might be a good idea but it made for very messy fights when all you’re doing is constantly focusing on one small ship all the time as opposed to being able to shift from one to the other.

Also, long individual levels definitely work better than the smaller skirmish based one. They’re more memorable and there’s a feeling of progress moving closer to Venom as opposed to constantly pushing back the tide on a tiny map.

I also felt that there was no replay value. Once i figured out what you had to do (no instructions!) it became a simple case of wiping out the planet outposts, cleaning up the map and then heading straight to Venom. Since each individual level wasn’t that difficult. Compared to the gauntlets of the first game and the excellent bosses that had (that goddamn three headed dinosaur!). I don’t recall it being that hard.

I did enjoy Star Fox 2, decades later as a piece of trivia lost to the Star Fox universe. I think i would have been disappointed with it as a sequel to one of my favourite SNES games (sorry Dylan)."

So there you go, you take that as you want, but I'm just trying to get people to manage their hype. It's not the long lost gem a lot of people think it is.
