1, 2 Switch is not the only game that requires the use of joycons. But even if it was, the system is only three months old, there could be dozens of games that require joycon use released over the next few years. Also, Nintendo has never in its history released a new model that had lesser game compatibility (not counting backwards compatibility) than the model before it, and now it's more reasonable to expect them to do this than release a successor to a console that's sold around 70 million units world wide? |
You are free to name other games that requires two separate Joycons in sense 1, 2 Switch is doing, that wouldn't work with built in controls. System is 3, 4 months old and has around 70 games released (including Indies) and only one game is doing what 1, 2 Switch is doing, and actually we have one game that could be played just in handheld mode. ARMS is one of most heavily motion controlled game Nintendo ever release but also have option to play it without motion controls. Like wrote, Nintendo already done similar thing with New 3DS and DSi, where some game could not be played on base 3DS or DS. Nintendo never before released hybrid console, or never before did not merged their home console and handheld divisions, so saying that Nintendo never done something like that before is very weak argument because with Switch they are obviously doing plenty of things they never didnt done before. Buy time Switch Mini/Pocket is out Switch platform will already have plenty of great games, few games like 1, 2 Switch that wouldn't work on Switch Mini/Pocket dont change when 99% games will work, same like few games won't be working in docked mode.
No isn't, I stand behind what I wrote, most logical and most likely, or even almost certain.

That's a great plan! Instead of offering a Switch mini that can play 98% - 99% of the Switch catalog without accessories (and 100% if you buy a pair of joy-cons) make a separate platform and split up development teams again! |
Basically.
