I get what he is saying, but that does not mean you can not offer a limited supply, higher price unit that supports 4K. All three platform holders are now at a point where their engines and games are made to scale according to hardware. I would have no problem paying for a Switch that was $599.99 if it could double as my phone, and offer 1080p in every title. They need to widen their view points if they want to reach more consumers and stay viable in the market.

Sony and Microsoft have not abandoned 1080p with the Pro and the X, they have simply widened their potential user base, by offering a higher tier unit that their base models could not satisfy. If they offered $999.99 versions of XBO and PS4 that could handle 4K @ 60fps, they would reach an even larger user base. These high end models are for people that spend 10's of thousands of dollars on A/V equipment, and want a game console that can take full advanatage of their set up. It is not a huge market, the XBOS and PS4S will still be the lead console, but the Pro, the X, and even higher end models should exsist just as higher end models exist in every other sector of consumer electronics.
