It's not consumer friendly, but that's why they're doing it.

Sony only has the biggest single network. The others combined are/will be bigger so it's not a selling point for a game like Minecraft and won't be for other games in the future. Hopefully more 3rd parties support cross-play and prioritise updates/DLC for the biggest combined userbase.
