If he was interested in combating the drug war in a real way, go push for legal marijuana, but of course you don't see Trump doing that. He gives no shit about the actual drug cartels. 

Building the wall is about securing the border, it isnt about keeping out Mexicans. The border between Mexico and the US is a major crossing point for people originating from Mexico and other countries as well.

It's a selling tool. Trump knows the audience he's selling to and a big part of that audience wants to blame Mexicans for everything when in reality they are one of the least of the problems the US has. The audience he has wants to pick on and scape goat a particular group for their problems while they're too dumb to realize they're agreeing to tax plans that will benefit the ultra-rich instead of them, but hey ... we stuck it to that Mexican who's just willing to break his back and work 12 hours a day so we can have cheap produce at the grocery store.
