Comparing with the previous week, I'd say Nintendo pushed a lot of stock for MK8D's release but then suffered even bigger than normal shortage of stock after that week.
Or, if you want to conspiracy theory version: Nintendo is trying to artically limit stock even more to see if it leads to even bigger sales.
