What are the components that Apple are using that Switch also uses and not used by other manufacturers? Everything in the Switch is pretty standard from the nand memory, vibration motors etc and used across a wide range of devices all of which are being supplied normally as far as I know. Considering Switch pricing they surely rank quite highly in how much they are prepared to pay for components which many price critical manufacturer's couldn't compete with. Just seems like an excuse to put the blame elsewhere or somehow connect Switch product quality with Apple. I suspect its more about Nintendo being conservative with numbers until they are sure demand is there for Switch. They went over the top with wii u producing a huge number of consoles that took a very long time to sell, that was money doing nothing sitting on inventory and prevented benefitting from falling component prices. Even some of the special editions of wii u appeared to be reworked and repackaged older stock. So this time they were being conservative which is not about creating artificial lack of supply but not getting burned by having more inventory than they can move in a timely fashion.
For a March launch at a fairly high price for a low performance console it has done extremely well, I'd be surprised if Nintendo expected those numbers although I'm sure they would have hoped for them.
