it makes absolutely no sense to compare them the way most people do on this site.

the fact that PS2 was only available in Japan for the first 8 months needs to be taken into account for an accurate comparison.

how can someone say PS4 is doing better if each region is doing worse?

The fact that Japan basically died after PS2 should also be take in consideration then? Make an alignment taking Japan out of both consoles and see how they fare.
