Agree with this.

I was one of the people who jumped on board with Fire Emblem at Awakening. It was a combination of getting familliar with the characters through Smash and a ton of positive reviews for Awakening.

I'm also this way for Metroid. I'd never really played a Metroid game until I played Super Metroid a few years ago. Samus Returns will be a day one purchase for me.

Sometimes, franchises bloom late.

Yeah I'm not really sure if Metroid is ever gonna be a big thing, there's late blooming and then there's blooming in your 60s/70s, Metroid is a very old franchise by now. It kinda is what it is, the truth is I think the type of gameplay it has (solitary, low action, exploration based) just doesn't really lend itself to a big audience.

Even the film franchise its inspired by (Alien) has always been a box office light weight compared to something like Star Wars, which is more of a crowd pleaser.

But that point is mute when A ) Alien is still one of the biggest franchises of all time(seriously..comparing Alien to Star Wars is kind of a fallacy) and B ) No one is saying Metroid will do Destiny numbers, but I honestly think 3.5-5 mil is very possible for a revolutionary Metroid.

Alien isn't as big as Star Wars because Alien is doing something completely different. The same is true with Metroid. The difference is that Alien made such a big mark in Sci Fi that even with its niche genre it became one of the biggest movie franchises of all time. I honestly think theres a way to bring niche genres into the mainstream. Metroid CAN be the Alien of video gaming, it just needs some actual trust from Nintendo.
