Mario Odyssey definitely is expanding in ways I wouldn't have expected. That said, in my opinion, BotW definitely has way more ambition than compared to its previous games. Mario Odyssey at its core is still a 3D Mario game, while BotW is an open world game with the Zelda logo stuck on it
