Well, that was the Game Awards so I guess they wanted to honored mainstream stuff as much as they could.

They probably didn't know about Bravely 2, Trails of Cold Steel II, #FE, or SMTIV: Apocalypse. 

Luckily this year is full of Nintendo games that everybody knows about. I was shocked when Splatoon got shooter of the year, because it was a new IP on a failing Nintendo system of all things.
