Got to play a bit of Mario Odyssey. Takes the best parts of Mario 64 and Galaxy with maybe a little dash of Banjo Kazooie. Large levels with lots of stuff to stumble upon, mixed in with more intensive platforming sections that are more galaxyish. The result is really great.

That being said, I have a hard time seeing anything but BOTW taking game of the year. Breath of the Wild is one of those rare games that really propels a genre forward. They obviously took a lot of notes with the style of open world games popular in the west, but took it a step further to create one of the most authentic feeling games ever. Everything in the game just works exactly as you would expect it to.. There are none of those fourth wall bending moments where it feels like an element is included solely for the sake of the player. Everything in the game serves the world and the experience in a natural way. BOTW will be influencing games for decades to come.

Of course, if Mario Odyssey, or any other game for that matter, comes along and is better than BOTW that's just great for gamers in general... but I don't see it happening.
