A port to me is simply enhanced graphics and not much else. I did try DQ VIII ages ago when it was new, but I got turned off by how simplistic the combat system was and ended up not giving it a proper chance. But I heard so much good about it since that I realize I should have given it more of a chance. I intend to do that on 3DS. |
Ehh... I don't know about that one XD it's a remake in the same sense as SMT: Devil Survivor DS -> 3DS Overclock ver. is. It's the exact same game, but has a few things added to entice people. Or maybe comparing it to Pokemon. R/S -> Emerald is a better comparison. The 2 new characters aren't that helpful for reasons I won't spoil, the new story scenes are okay. But adding new story scenes = remake is like saying Star Wars rereleases are remakes because of stuff like "Jedi Rocks"... *shudders*. 1 post game dungeon iirc, though DQ8 already has a cool post-game thingy anyway. Monster Arena isnt new unless they added more recruitable monsters which I havent noticed. New Costumes, recipes, no random encounters + fast forward is definitely a plus though.
I encourage you to play any version. This is my favorite game so I own the PS2, iOS, and 3DS ver. And beat them all 100%. However... iOS ver lacks the orchastrated music AND the VA >~> so it's rough.
But as I said, what they added isn't going to be as noticeable as you might think except the last 4 things. Actually, what's weird is they actually changed and rearranged scenes from the original for whatever reason. Some good, some, questionable
