The promise of next gen console gaming on Xbox one and PS4 was 1080p @ 60fps. Both consoles failed to achieve this and Xbox one would often be running at slightly lower resolution.

Well the promise for this current gen upgrade is 4k @ 60 Fps, both PS4 Pro and Xbox one X will probably fall short but this time around Xbox one X will perform better.

I don't play game on PC, I just want the best high console gaming experience.

If both consoles were running at 1080p then there would of course be a good FPS difference (probably 4-8 FPS, maybe more)... *BUT* the issue here is chasing the 4K dream. Personally its a waste (I dont own a 4K TV right now, probably not for a couple more years).

The problem with chasing the 4K is more problematic than doing 1080p where the X would show a power difference. I'll explain....

Changing the resolution requires a lot of power, especially when jumping from 1080p to varients from 1080 to 4k.

Say PS4 Pro shows a game in 1800p, thats better than 1080p, but using checkerboarding means that it will display at 4k. Now if X displays at the same resolution, there would be an uptick in fps, the problem here is that most devs will probably just increase the resolution (especially as MS are pusing the true 4K narrative), the problem with that is that the benefit of better frame rate will be lost as they increase the resolution. While the actual graphical display wont look that much difference.

So when its all said and done, I suspect we'll only see a small uptick in FPS and a bump in resolution, which basically amounts to not a lot in the end.
