Do any games have cross platform voice chat other than Windows-XBL? It's the platform itself that's responsible for VC on every system isn't it? Steam, PSN, XBL. That's why an app (assuming anyone can use it) is a good option for cross platform voice chat and friend's list.

If they go for cross-platform voicechat it will be done through XBL, though it may not happen, as like you said if there are games that support cross-platform voice chat it's a minority.

There are games that support voice-chat through their own servers/p2p rather than using steam/psn/xbl but I don't know of any that are cross-platform.

An app for cross-platform voice chat would need to be used, but I doubt Nintendo's app would be first choice for this. TeamSpeak, Discord, Skype, Steam etc would be.

If it's done through XBL then Switch owners can't use it - pointless. If it's done through an app, everyone can use it. Switch owners don't have a choice anyway, no indication the console itself supports a mic. Of course people could use discord or steam or whatsapp or just phone their friends. Switch owners could do that now but it wouldn't be linked to the console with all the lobby/invite/playdate stuff would it?
