No, the overarching themes they created in concert with their modern/future plot to try and tie things together is convoluted, and they have since realized that all that shit was completely pointless and unnecessary. All people wanna do in AC is go back into cool periods in time, explore them, and murder fools. Everything that takes you out of that is just in the way.

As you simplify what they are doing with every stroke of the keyboard, you do realize they are still telling you a story, correct? The story is still leading somewhere and desmonds name comes back for a reason. Youre right that they want to milk the periods of time, but you are severely understimating what Ubsisoft is doing.
