Let me ask you this due to my ignorance.  If I bought a game such as the original Zelda for the Wii, do I need to re-buy it for the Wii-U for example?

No need for the first part- it's a good question.

Anyways, you can transfer it from your Wii to your Wii U. Just make sure you have both available.

Also, if you want to have pro controller/gamepad support, I believe you can pay $1-2 to upgrade to the Wii U version of the virtual console title. That way, you won't need to use a wiimote/classic controller

Hope it helps

I do have a pro controller.  And more than likely I'll bypass the WiiU infavor of the Switch so we'll see what happens after that.  I'll just enjoy the classics on the Wii for now.
