If you noticed the Jaggies in the top pic still have a sweet spot to hit, and the character is just shooting randomly at it. A bow-gun user would aim for the head, but this machine bow-gun user seems to be doing quite alright just shooting at it and keeping it at bay. 

You'll also notice that it's not really phasing the Brute Wyvern at all. It's almost like they're using the trailer just to show off new gameplay rather than actually hunt. Or were you too busy not liking a game you've seen five minutes of to notice that?
