I would describe it as kind of like a tablet before they became widespread. It's something that seems extraneous at first, but it is just really enjoyable to be able to change the way you play it at will.
Also, unlike a lot of previous Nintendo products, it feels really high quality, which I am really big fan of.
(Definitely needs more software though. I never wanted to be able to run Crunchyroll on something so badly.)
