That's actually why I was sure it would score higher, but it seems having way more modes and variety only amounts to 2 points more than Pokken.

Well that's where you have to look at the fact that within the genre, the most important content, the content that will impact the score the most, is fighters.  Modes and lots of stages will earn you some bonus pooints but it's the fighter count that accounts for the lion's share of potential points.
