There was always some stuff which came back. Sure, you didn't get so much in the 80's what was already beloved in the 40's because in the 40's or before, there was not much you could own and which could even have a comeback (except for something like furniture or stuff which is so bad that it's just not comeback worthy)
Humans developed more and more different stuff you could own especially for your leisure time and with that, there will be more and more which could have a revival but it's not a crazy new trend or something.
