The future is solar and green. If other countries start imposing heavier emission laws and banning fossil fuel cars, the US will be hit heavily in it's exports if it languishes.

That would require the countries in the agreement to actually comply with it (which none currently are). I'm not sure the restrictions and timeline stated for "developed countries" is very friendly for energy heavy countries. It'll hurt for several generations before the long term economic benefits.
