http://www.tabletpcreview.com/news/tablets-continue-to-cut-into-sales-of-laptops-and-pcs/ The above link is from 2013, reporting on an ongoing trend at the time. The following link is from 2017 and also features a graph from the analysts at IDC. While tablet sales are declining now, the research says that consumers prefer laptops and smartphones over tablets. However, the main point in all of this is that all three of the aforementioned devices are portable PCs and all three of them (individually, not combined) sell better than desktop PCs. Smartphones aren't included in the graph, but they sell more than anything else anyway. I can't say that I am surprised that the tablet hype has worn off. These devices sit between laptops and smartphones in terms of functionality and portablity. If you regularly type longer messages, then a laptop is preferable because of its keyboard. If you don't need a keyboard, a phone does all jobs of a tablet just fine, needless to say that a phone ranks higher on the list of daily needs to begin with (phone calls, obviously). Then there's the fact that smartphones are offered in XL sizes nowadays, so the desire for a bigger screen doesn't necessitate the purchase of a tablet. |
Pretty much the reasons why I don't have a tablet. They seem so useless and unnecessary to me.
OT: I think that Sony will make a Switch-like console if they can find a way to make it powerful enough.
